Here is a simple premise to chew on (and I defy anyone to prove to me that I am wrong): Corporations (or, more accurately, business enterprises) don’t pay taxes; people pay taxes. Unlike individuals, taxes to the “corporation” (that one word euphemism that supposedly represents all business entities that operate in our free enterprise system, regardless of the legal form in which they operate) are simply pass-through expenses, just like cost of goods sold, rent, payroll, the phone bill, etc. are pass-through expenses. The tax cost, like all of the others, has to be recovered and the enterprise has to break even (at least) in order to provide a return on investment to the owners of the enterprise. If there is no return on investment to the owner(s), then they have no real reason to continue operation of the business. The enterprise is not good use of their investment capital. The lower the tax cost, the higher the return on investment capital (all other things being equal).

Following this analogy, no business enterprise should be taxed. The end point (i.e., individuals) should be taxed based upon their ownership of business and financial assets and return of capital investment.

In short, businesses (“corporations”) don’t pay taxes. People pay taxes.
