After becoming an adult, something many on this forum have mentally not achieved, the only time I didn’t pay taxes was my first tour in Vietnam when I was making $222.30 a month with $115 jump pay and $65 hostile fire pay and entitled to a $500 a month tax exemption.
All modern, civilized, western countries have always had a progressive tax system with the rich being more heavily taxed than the average wage earner. There is sufficient personal wealth in the world to pay the world’s sovereign debt THREE TIMES OVER.
The U.S.—with $63.5 trillion in total private wealth—holds the largest amount of any country in the world. But the U.S. has the largest wealth inequality gap of 55 countries studied. The problem in our country is not over taxation. The problem is under taxation and concentration of the country’s wealth in a few, the top 2%.
