Douglas,

I was always taught in school that until a person understands the "Theory" behind something, the "Facts" are and remain much more opaque.

Understanding the "Theory" also opens oneself up to understanding much more of the "Possibilities" than does simply understanding the "Facts".

That explains a lot. We engineers work on proven theories which we try to apply in ever more efficient ways. Facts are facts. Some are irrelevant to the problem at hand, but they exist just the same.
trumpites attempt to dispute actual facts with alternative reality. When they don't like news, they declare it is fake. When they get caught in falsehoods they declare they are alternative facts instead of admitting that they repeatedly lie.

True enough but I never accepted (either previously or currently) the idea of Alternative Realities as I prefer "Facts" along with my "Possibilities". Alternative Universes on the other hand are still a "Possibility".

Agreed, in fact, it is highly probable that they exist.
