Note from the Executive Editor

Dear ,

As I mentioned in my February note to you, I am going to have a monthly communication to share new features on CEOExpress, ways to more effectively use CEOExpress, and personal technology tips, and to ask for your input on issues.

New Features:

Save the sites you love: Our webmaster, Toby McGuire, has added a number of great features that I didn't even know about (he's the quiet type). The first is related to the daily Editor's Note and "Great Sites." We find some incredible sites to share with you and many that you would like to keep. You know that there is a "Great Sites" archive, but did you know that you can go into the archive (both “Great Sites” and Editor's Notes) and add the site to your personal links with just one click? He has also built this feature into the McKinsey Quarterly articles. Find an article you like? Just click the link under the article and add it as a link on your homepage. If you haven't installed our terrific "One-Click" feature, just take 5 seconds and add it to your browser. Many members have said it is one of the best things we have done. There are a number of other hidden features of CEOExpressSelect that I will introduce to you over the coming months.

Multi-Search: Our Multi-Search feature is out of beta testing and is continuing to get fabulous reviews. Access Google and 80+ other search capabilities on one screen. If you use Outlook for your mail, you can integrate Search within Outlook. I never go to Google anymore, because Google now lives within my Outlook. Click here to access Multi-Search or find it daily on the search toolbar on your homepage. Seriously, try it for a couple days--you won't be able to go back to any other search engine.

Polls and Forums: If you have been on CEOExpress over the last two weeks, you will surely notice that we have started a new initiative with forums and polls. I have been impressed with the quality of discourse and have received messages from many members stating how they welcome a place to have a discussion about issues with peers. The forums are taking on the feel of a club--a rowdy one at times, but a club nonetheless. It will be interesting to see how it develops. CEOExpressSelect members will be given additional tools to use in these forums over the next month or so, as well as being invited to serve as expert moderator of a forum if you are so inclined. You are welcomed to send suggestions for a forum or ideas for improvement.

Favorite Keyboard Trick of the Month: Have you ever finished writing a contract and then decide you want to have the disclaimer section all in UPPER CASE letters? How about if you have been typing away and after 3 minutes notice your "caps lock" is on? There is a great little keyboard stroke that can save the day and a lot of time. You can change: (LETTERS LIKE THIS.) to (letters like this.) or (Letters like this.) just by toggling shift/F3 keys. In the case above, the first toggle will turn it from upper case to lower case, the second toggle will leave the text in lower case, but capitalize the first letter of each sentence, and a third toggle will turn it back to upper case. You can also find these functions within the Word "Options" menu, but keystrokes are so fast and easy. Next month, I'll show you some great tricks with PowerPoint slides that are quite simple, but will make your presentations look like you hired a professional.

Spam Tip of the Month: If your email address appears anywhere on your website as a link that will open an email window, it might be a good idea to remove it and replace it with a graphic (so that people can type your address manually) or a form that hides your email address. Why? This is one of the main ways spammers get their lists. Spammers crawl the Internet daily collecting email addresses that exist on websites and then sell your name to other spammers. We have recently made this change on CEOExpress.com so, if you want to see an example, show your webmaster this page. Spam Filter: I am so happy with my spam software that I need to tell you about it again. It is software you download to your computer and is called Spam Inspector. This software updates automatically each day for new spam culprits and it only costs a one time fee of $19.95. The first day it will filter out 80% of your spam and after a few days of "training," you will see less than 1-2% of the spam you saw a week before. Spam will never be stopped by regulation; you need to stop spam yourself. This program has done it for me.

Online lunchtime seminars: I am going to be testing a series of personal technology seminars. Topics will range from "how to rip your favorite CDs into MP3 format" to "how manage your documents using virtual "web folders" on your wireless and desktop devices." I'll be taking requests, so let me know if there is something that you are particularly interested in. (If anyone is a MAC expert, please let me know--I'd love your expertise.) All seminars will be 15-20 minutes and will be complementary for CEOExpressSelect members.

CEOExpress Corporate: CEOExpress Corporate is continuing to develop and add new features. We have wonderful clients who give us great ideas for improvement every day. Watch for the announcement of our new release in six weeks. Anytime you or one of your clients are looking for a great, cost effective solution to connect with your audience, we'd be happy to send you some information or have a conversation.

As usual, I would love to hear from you. Feel free to send me a note. I'm taking a couple weeks off from now until April 5th, so if you don't hear right back from me, it is because I'm walking on a beach :-)

Best regards,
