My CEOExpress Account Back to Top
  1. How do I make CEOExpress my homepage?
Simple. Click Here. (There is a link to "Make CEOX My Home" under the logo on the CEOExpress homepage.)

  2. Why do I have to sign into my account every time I go to CEOExpress? (Or, what the heck are cookies, anyway?)
There is a small text file in your web browser that is called a "cookie". This "cookie" simply tells CEOExpress that a user has returned to the site and then enables us to generate their personal page out of our database. If you have checked the Auto- login box and are still are not being recognized when you return to CEOExpress, look in your Preferences or Internet Options drop-down on your browser and make certain that your browser is set to "accept cookies." Your personal CEOExpress will not work unless you configure your browser to "accept cookies." If you receive a message saying "Your session has timed out" immediately after registering or during subsequent log-ins, you need to turn on the "accept cookies" feature in your browser.

    To change your cookie setting:

    • In Netscape, go to "Edit" on the menu at the top of your browser. Go to the "Preferences" screen. On this screen, a menu will open up that will give you a series of options. Click on "Advanced" and enable "accept all cookies" or "accept only cookies that get sent back to the originating server". You can now log in and go directly to your personal page.
    • For Internet Explorer, go to the "view" option on your menu. Now click on "Internet Options" and a menu will open up. Click on "Advanced" at the top of the menu and scroll down to the "cookies" section towards the bottom. You have the option of selecting "prompt before accepting cookies" and "accept all cookies". Select one of these options and then log in again. You will be taken immediately to your personal CEOExpress.
    • If you're using Internet Explorer 5.X, go to the "Tools" option on your menu. Click on "Internet Options" and a menu will open up. Click on the "Security" tab and you can choose "Custom". In the dialog box you have the option of selecting "accept all cookies" or " warn before accepting cookies". Select one of these options and then log in again. You will be taken immediately to your personal CEOExpress.

You can eliminate the cookie from your browser at any time on CEOExpress by simply clicking the "sign-out" link on the navigation bar on your personal page.

  3. Where can I access all of my account information?
To find your account expiration date, renew your account, and more, click the My Account link in the upper right hand corner of the CEOExpress homepage, next to your name.

  4. Can I change my user name? What about my password?
Your account user name cannot be changed. This is how we uniquely identify your account, and all of your information (including your personal links) is associated with your user name.

You can, however, change your account password at any time. To change your password, or other personal information, just click the My Account link in the upper right hand corner of the CEOExpress homepage, next to your name.

  5. Can I change the settings and layout of my page?
To make changes to your account (including your link layout, the number of tabs displayed, opening links into a new window, and much more), click the "My Account" link in the upper right hand corner of the homepage, near your name.

  6. Why do I see ads when I log in to CEOExpress?
CEOExpressSelect members will not see ads when they are logged in to their accounts. When you are logged in, your name will appear in the upper right hand corner of your desktop. If not, you'll see a banner ad at the top of the page, and a Member Sign In link in the left hand corner. Click that link to log in to your account.

If you sign out of your personal CEOExpressSelect account every day, you need to sign back in when you return. You are probably doing this by accessing the public site. Unfortunately, until you have logged in, CEOExpress cannot recognize you as a member, and you will therefore see the same banner and pop-under ads as our public users. To avoid this, please use our Ad-Free Login page. Just set https://www.ceoexpress.com/login as your homepage. After you sign out, when you go "Home," you'll be taken back to the login page. No ads!
Content & Features Back to Top
  1. What is a Knowledge Nugget?
You will see us refer to "Links Nuggets," "Mail Nuggets," "Tool Nuggets," "Note Nuggets" and many other types of "Nuggets." This is essentially our description of the boxes or containers that hold all the applications that now sit on your CEOExpress homepage. There is no limit to the types of nuggets that can be incorporated (and feel free to send suggestions). Nuggets can be added to your links tabs by clicking "Add Content," on the left hand side, above the tabs.

  2. What is a Tab?
All of your nuggets are divided into sections, called Tabs. To display a Tab, click the tab name in the navy blue menu at the center of the page. Keep reading for more information.

  3. How can I add a new Tab to my page?
Above the tabs menu, on the left hand side, you should see links to "Add Content" and "Add Tab."

To add a new Tab, click "Add Tab." See "Why can't I move the nuggets in some of my tabs?" below for more information on your options.

  4. How can I add new content and tools to a Tab?
Click "Add Content" to add new nuggets. Nugget types are divided into categories. (To add a new links nugget, for instance, click "Personal Links Nugget.")

  5. How do I add/delete/move links on CEOExpress?
To edit a links nugget, mouse over the nugget to reveal the editing links in the upper right hand corner. Click "Edit." Click "View Instructions" at the top of the edit page for detailed information.

Links can be moved within their current nugget, or to another Personal Links Nugget using drag and drop.

  6. How do I create a long scrolling tab?
You can create a long scrolling version of the page under one of the tabs-it will essentially allow you to mimic the prior CEOExpress site, but have all the new features of the new site. It's quick and easy to set up, and will allow you to view all your content at once, without clicking on multiple tabs to do so. To add a new tab, click "Add Tab" on the left hand side of your page, above the tabs menu. Choose "Long Scrolling Tab" from your options. Name the tab, and choose up to 7 of your existing tabs to include in the Long Scrolling Tab. (For those of you on slower connections, we do not recommend using more than 3 or 4 tabs.) The new tab will appear first on the left had end. Click "More information" at the top of the tab for details about editing the tab.

  7. Why can't I move the nuggets in some of my tabs?
You've probably noticed by now that some of your tabs behave differently from your other tabs.  There are actually three different kinds of tabs, and they each have slightly different rules.  (Don't worry, you'll get used to it!)

    1. Personal Tabs (Drag and Drop fully enabled)
Everyone should have started out with a "My Links" tab on the left hand end of your tabs menu.  This an example of a Personal Tab.  These are all yours.  You can add and remove any nuggets that you want (click "Add Content" on the left, above your tabs to add new nuggets). Use Drag and Drop to move the nuggets within the tab.  Use the moving van icon at the top of each nugget to move it to another tab. To create additional personal tabs, click "Add Tab" on the left, above your tabs, and select "Custom Personal Tab."

    2. Pre-Populated Personal Tabs (Drag and Drop fully enabled)
Three of your tabs - News, Tools, and Breaktime - are Pre-Populated Personal Tabs.  We created these to give you an idea of how to use the new system.  They each include multiple kinds of nuggets.  They were created by CEOExpress, but they will work like your Personal Tabs.  Anything you don't use can be deleted, or moved to another tab.  Move nuggets within the tab using Drag and Drop.  Add any new nuggets you want, including Personal Links Nuggets. The Breaktime tab is a little different.  There are several links nuggets within that tab, and you'll recognize them as being from the old CEOExpress Breaktime section.  Those nuggets are managed by CEOExpress, so any updates we make will automatically appear in your nugget.  You can add personal links to the nuggets, that will appear at the bottom of the nugget, after the CEOExpress links. Link the other nuggets in the Pre-Populated tabs, the links nuggets can be moved within their tab, or moved to another tab.

    3. CEOExpress Managed Tabs (No Drag Drop)
Daily News & Info, Business Research, and Office & Travel are CEOExpress Managed Tabs. These most closely resemble the links sections on the old CEOExpress.  Because we manage them for you, you will always get the latest updates, new links, etc.  However, because these are CEOExpress tabs, the links nuggets within the tabs cannot be moved, and new nuggets cannot be added.  You can collapse any nuggets you don't regularly use by clicking the arrow at the top of the nugget.  And just like the links categories on the old CEOExpress, you can hide links you don't use, and add your own personal links by clicking the "Edit" link at the top of the nugget.  For more information on CEOExpress Managed Tabs, please see the thin blue bar at the top of any of these tabs.
Please note: If you are unable move the nuggets in a Personal or Pre-Populated Personal tab, you may have disabled Drag and Drop. Please see "Drag and Drop isn't working" below for more information.

  8. I deleted a tab. Can I get the links/nuggets back?
What happens if you accidentally click an "X" and delete a Nugget, or worse yet, an entire Tab? First of all, whenever you click an "X" you will get a warning, asking if you really want to delete whatever you have just chosen to delete. Please always read these warnings - they may stop you from making a mistake. The good news is, we have created a system that will stop you from making that mistake, even if you ignore the warning. :)

The short answer is this: If you accidentally delete something, check your Trash Can. If it's there, move it back to a tab to save it. For more detailed information, keep reading.

    Deleting a Nugget:
To delete an individual nugget, click the "X" in the grey bar at the top of that nugget. You will see warning, asking if you really want to delete the nugget. If you do, click "Ok." (If not, click "Cancel.") If you have deleted any Non-Links Nugget (News, Text Messaging, Flickr Images, Search, etc) the nugget will be deleted. These nuggets can always be added again by choosing them from "Add Content." In most cases, if you have customized the nugget, this customization will be lost when you delete it. (One exception: The Text Messaging Nugget should save your contact list even when deleted.)

If you delete a Personal Links Nugget, we want to give you a chance to get those links back. Your nugget will be moved to your Trash Can. To access the Trash Can, click the trash can icon in the tabs menu row, to the right of your tabs. Your deleted Personal Links Nugget will reside in the Trash Can for five days. During those five days, you can choose to move the nugget into any of your tabs, by using the moving van icon at the top of the nugget. If you have not moved the nugget out of the trash after five days, it will be permanently deleted. Permanently deleted Personal Links Nuggets CANNOT be retrieved. (If you delete a nugget that is already in the Trash Can by clicking the "X" at the top of the nugget, it will automatically be permanently deleted.)

    Deleting a Tab:
To delete an entire tab, first click the name of the tab, to display it. Next, click the "X" in the tools at the right hand end of the tabs menu (next to the Trash Can).

If you delete a CEOExpress Managed Tab, it will be automatically deleted. You can add the tab to your page again by clicking "Add Tab" and selecting "CEOX Content." Any personal links that you have added to the Links Nuggets within that CEOExpress Managed Tab will not be lost, and will reappear right where you left them when you re-add the tab.

If you delete a Personal Tab or a Pre-Populated Personal Tab, all of the nuggets from that tab, including any tools, and any Personal Links Nuggets, will be moved to your Trash Can. Again, your Trash Can can be accessed by clicking the trash can icon in the tabs menu row, to the right of your tabs. All of the nuggets will be saved in the trash for five days. During those five days, you can choose to move the nugget into any of your tabs, by using the moving van icon at the top of the nugget. If you have not moved the nugget out of the trash after five days, it will be permanently deleted. Non-Links Nuggets can be added again from "Add Content" (though most customization will be lost). Personal Links Nuggets will be permanently deleted, and CANNOT be retrieved. (If you delete a nugget that is already in the Trash Can by clicking the "X" at the top of the nugget, it will automatically be permanently deleted.) You have five days to save these nuggets and return them to your tabs.

If you delete a Pre-Populated Personal Tab, you can add it again by clicking "Add Tab" and choosing "Pre-Populated Content." Please note that this will restore the tab to it's original state, with only the nuggets and content that CEOExpress originally had in the tab. If you have added any other nuggets, including and especially Personal Links, they will not be restored.

  9. How can I set an opening tab?
To open any tab, click the tab name. To set your "Opening Tab," (or "Default Tab") just click the pencil to the right of the tab name. Check the "Opening Tab" check box, and click the "Update" button. Now every time you return to CEOExpress, that tab will be open. If you would prefer to always be returned to the last tab you had open, check nothing. (Newer beta testers - converting on or after July 17 - your Opening Tab will automatically be set to "Daily News and Info." If you do not want to have a default tab, click the pencil for "Daily News" and uncheck the "Opening Tab" check box.)

  10. Drag and drop isn't working. Did it get turned off?
You can turn Drag and Drop on and off on your My Account page. Just click "My Account" in the upper right hand corner of your homepage. Turning Drag and Drop off when you aren't using it may help speed up the load time of your homepage.

  11. Why is my homepage scrolling? (Or, how many tabs can I have?)
Is CEOExpress too big for your screen? Do you need to scroll from side to side to see everything? If so, you may be displaying too many tabs. By default, once you add more than 8 tabs to your page, additional tabs will automatically appear in a dropdown menu at the right hand end of the tab menu. You may want to display fewer tabs outside of the dropdown menu (if your page is scrolling), or, especially if you are using a high resolution, you may prefer to display more tabs. Click "My Account" in the upper right hand corner of your homepage, next to your name. Scroll to the bottom to choose the number of tabs you wish to display. You can still add more tabs, but anything after your chosen number will appear in the dropdown menu.

  12. How do I open links in a new window?
When in doubt, always click the "My Account" link in the upper right hand corner of your homepage. This is where you'll find all your account settings. To open links in a new window (or switch to open links in the same window), choose your settings in the right hand column of the My Account page.

  13. Where can I find additional content information?
For more detailed information, please see the Nugget Central page.

  1. How do I make CEOExpress even faster?
Here are some tips, to make your CEOExpressSelect homepage load more quickly:

Speed Up Your "My Links" Tab
When you click on your "My Links" tab, is it loading more slowly than you would like? You probably have a ton of personal links, right? The best way to speed up the load time of one tab, is to break the content up into smaller tabs. So... What you'll want to do first is create a new tab. To do so, click "Add Tab" on the left, above your tabs. Choose "Custom Personal Tab." Enter a tab name, and click the "Add Personal Tab" button. The new tab will appear in the first position, on the left hand side. To move it, just click the arrows at the right hand end of your tabs menu. Now that you have a new tab, you move Links Nuggets from your My Links tab into the new tab. You can create as many new tabs as you want. This will let you further organize your links, and will also considerably speed up the load time in each of the tabs. Don't forget that you can add other kinds of nuggets to your tabs, by clicking "Add Content" on the left, above the tabs. Lastly, each tab loads independently the first time you click on it. After the first load the tab is "cached" so that it will be available immediately the next time you go to it.

    Turn Off Drag and Drop
You can make your homepage load even faster if you turn off Drag and Drop. It's probably not a feature you use every day, and it's quick and easy to turn it back on when you need it. To turn Drag and Drop off, just click the "My Account" link in the upper right hand corner of your homepage. Setting controls are listed on the right hand side of that page. Choose "Drag and Drop Off" and click the "Update Settings" button at the bottom to save the change. Just choose "On" to turn it back on later.

    Turn Off Stock Ticker
If you do not use your stock ticker, turning it off will help speed up CEOExpress. To do so, simply click the small arrow to the left hand side of the ticker. When the ticker is closed, it will be listed in the thin grey bar under the CEOExpress logo. Just click the arrow to open it again.

You can also view your ticker information at any time by clicking the "Quote Page" link in the "Finance Center" box. Or, add a "Quote Page" nugget to one of your tabs. (Just click "Add Content" on the left, above your tabs menu. "Quote Page" is listed under "Tools.")

Flickr May Slow Down Page Load If you have chosen to add a "Flickr Images" nugget to your page, please be aware that this might slow down the load time. If the Flickr nugget is in your "opening" tab, and the Flickr site is down, the images will not load, and this may slow down CEOExpress. To stop this from happening, remove the Flickr nugget, or move it a tab other than your "opening" tab.

  2. How can I bring my links higher on my page? (Or, how can I hide the tools that I'm not using?)
There are lots of valuable tools and features at the top of the CEOExpress homepage. You have personalized stock and news tickers, a weather center, and five custom search boxes. We also provide daily great sites and an Editor's note. But you may want to pull your links and nuggets up higher on your page.

The top of the page is divided into four sections – news and weather, CEOExpress content, search boxes, and stock ticker. Each of those sections has a small grey arrow off to the left hand side. As you click those arrows, the sections of the page will collapse, and a thin grey bar will appear under the CEOExpress logo. That bar will list the areas that you have collapsed, and provide an arrow next to each so that you can reopen them at any time. CEOExpress will remember these changes each time you return to the page. But what if you still want access to that information? Easy. If you've collapsed the CEOExpress content, but still want to see the Editor's Note every day, just click "Add Content" on the left hand side above your tabs. Select "CEOExpress Content," and then "Editor's Note" to add an Editor's Note Nugget to whichever tab you have open. You can also add Search Nuggets, Stock Nuggets, Weather Nuggets, News Nuggets and more, all found in the "Add Content" menu. Add them to whichever tab you want, and access the information any time.

  3. I don't have JavaScript enabled on my computer, and can't access some of my features. What can I do? We offer a fully function non-JavaScript version of the site. You can even toggle from the non-JavaScript version to the Java-Script version if you switch computers. Just click "My Account" in the upper right hand corner of your homepage, and choose the non-JavaScript site from the settings on the left.
Everything Else Back to Top

  1. My stock ticker isn't working. What's wrong?
First, make sure that your stock ticker is turned on. Near the top of your homepage, under the CEOExpress logo, you'll find a thin grey bar where all your closed page sections are listed. If "Stock Ticker" is listed, just click the arrow next to the feature name to open it. It will open above your tabs menu.

  2. Can I communicate with other CEOExpress members?
First, you should absolutely be visiting our daily forums each day. Our community is the brightest, most knowledgeable, and one of the most opinionated on the Internet. You'll be amazed by the insightful and interesting posts on every topic presented. Even if you don't choose to post, you'll enjoy reading what others have to say.

When participating in the polls and forums, you may want to communicate with other members. You can do so using our Message Center, so you don't have to share your personal email address. Just click the "Contact" button under any CEOExpressSelect member's name, next to their post. You can compose a message, which they'll receive in their own message center. Use the envelope and pencil icons in the upper right hand corner of the forums page to access your message center, where you can also receive messages from members.

You can choose to be notified via email when you receive a message in your message center. (Just check the check box at the top of your message center for this setting.) Please do not respond to the notification emails. Your response will not go to the person who sent you the message – it will come to CEOExpress. To respond to the message, go to your message center, and write back there.

  3. I'm not getting the CEOExpress newsletter. Why?
Each month, your editor, Patricia Pomerleau, sends a newsletter to all our CEOExpressSelect members. These newsletters tell you about new and upcoming features and promotions. They also include tips and tricks, and links to Patricia's favorite sites and software. To take a look at past newsletters, click the "Newsletter Archives" link in the pale blue menu bar at the top of your CEOExpress homepage.

Have you been receiving these newsletters? If not, now is a great time to update your personal information, including your email address. To do so, click "My Account" in the upper right hand corner of the page, and select "Edit Personal Info." You'll see the email address that you entered when you first created your account. If this email is out-dated, please update it now. Not only do we need this address to send your newsletters, but we'll use it to confirm your information if you request a password reminder, and we may need to send you other important information about your account. We will not share your email address with anyone.

Please note: We ask that you provide us with an email address other than your CEOExpress email. If you are having trouble accessing your account and need login information, we will only be able to send it to your CEOExpress email. You can see why that might cause a problem. If you want your CEOExpress email address to be your primary address, please be sure to enter an alternate address under "Alternate Email."
