Search crews responded to a report of an avalanche that occurred Tuesday in the Castle Peak area of California's Sierra Nevada, the Nevada County Sheriff's Office said.
Rescuers pulled six survivors from a remote California site where 15 backcountry skiers were caught in an avalanche, the authorities said. Nine others were still missing.
