In a post on X, Grijalva said she was "pushed aside and pepper sprayed" after identifying herself as a member of Congress while seeking information from officers during a US Immigration and Customs Enforcement's (ICE) operation near the Taco Giro restaurant.
The authorities accused "some foreign media" of smearing the government's response to a fire at a high-rise complex, saying: "Do not say you have not been warned."
Win Rozario, who had called 911 in distress, was holding scissors when two police officers shot him. The New York attorney general said it was unlikely the officers would be convicted.
