Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum confirmed that at least 13 people died in the Interoceanic Train derailment in southern Mexico. Officials stated that 241 passengers and nine crew members were on board when the train derailed near Nizanda.

The governor of Oaxaca, Salomon Jara Cruz, expressed condolences to the families of those killed in the accident and said state authorities were co-ordinating with federal agencies to assist those affected.

The train was carrying around 250 passengers and crew members on a cross-country route linking the Pacific and the Gulf of Mexico. Nearly 100 people were injured.
