Trump says Hong Kong issue is 'tough' because city is 'attached to China'
It's time for a geography lesson with President Trump.During an interview with Fox Sports on Tuesday, the president was asked about the situation in Hong Kong, where in recent months China has cracked down with a new national security law that threatens the city's autonomy, and where Hong Kong authorities arrested media tycoon Jimmy Lai earlier this week. Trump didn't exactly echo his national security adviser, Robert O'Brien, who previously said the U.S. is "deeply troubled" by Lai's arrest. He instead complained Hong Kong had made "a lot of money" the U.S. could have made because of "tremendous incentives."But he did briefly wade into the political situation, simply to say that it's "a little bit tough from certain standpoints" because, when looking at a map, Hong Kong is "attached to" mainland China. And, well, there's no arguing with that. How Trump describes China-Hong Kong relations on Fox Sports Radio: "You know, it's a part-- it's a part, when you look, I mean, take a look at a map. It's attached to China. So it's a little bit tough from certain standpoints." -- Kyle Griffin (@kylegriffin1) August 11, 2020More stories from Donald Trump is trying to steal the election Susan Rice conspicuously left off DNC speakers list ahead of Biden's veep announcement Belarus cuts off internet as EU says it's considering action in response to disputed election

Trump says Americans will have to learn Chinese if Biden wins but offers little condemnation of Beijing
In a pair of interviews on Tuesday, President Donald Trump railed against his competitor for being weak on China -- but stopped short himself of condemning China's repression of its Uyghur ethnic minority or its crackdown on political freedoms in Hong Kong.
