How the U.S. and Iran Got Locked in a Toxic Dance of Death
Kaveh Kazemi/GettyOn Saturday, Houthi rebels launched their most audacious attack to date in their war against Saudi Arabia, badly damaging two oil plants that process most of the country's crude output. The attacks were carried out by drones with a range of almost 1,000 miles, and immediately escalated tensions between the United States and Iran.

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo accused Iran of being behind "an unprecedented attack on the world's energy supply." The Iranians have long supported the Houthis in their ongoing conflict with Saudi Arabia, a close American ally, and American intelligence officials strongly suspect that Iranian technicians trained the Houthis to deploy missile-launching drones.

The Houthi attack on the Saudi refineries is perhaps best seen as the most recent development in what historian David Crist calls the 40-year "twilight war" between Iran and the United States. Most experts see President Donald Trump's May 2018 withdrawal from the Iran nuclear deal of 2015 as the beginning of the most recent chapter of the conflict.

Stephen Colbert Desperately Tries to Get Elizabeth Warren to Bad-Mouth Joe Biden
CBSBefore she sat down with Stephen Colbert on Tuesday night, the mere mention of Elizabeth Warren's name during The Late Show host's monologue drew loud applause from the live audience.

That enthusiasm only continued when the senator and 2020 presidential candidate joined Colbert at his desk moments later. "Why don't we just quit now and do a selfie line?" she joked.

But Colbert wanted to talk about more than just selfies. And he began by asking about a specific line from her massive rally the night before in New York City's Washington Square Park.

Wary of conflict with Iran, Trump takes go-slow approach to attack on Saudi oil

Corey Lewandowski's House Testimony Was Basically His Senate Campaign Launch
Bloomberg via GettyIn calling in Corey Lewandowski to testify, House Judiciary Committee Democrats hoped they'd get a spectacle that might boost their impeachment efforts.

It's unclear whether that will happen. What they clearly did get, however, was a spectacle that cemented Lewandowski's brand as an unapologetic fighter for Donald Trump—for better or for worse.

Tuesday's high-profile hearing was essentially a coming-out party for Lewandowski's long-teased, but still unannounced campaign for U.S. Senate in New Hampshire: he talked up his "blue collar" roots and service to President Trump while effusively praising his former boss and gleefully trolling his Democratic questioners. During a bathroom break, he tweeted out a link to a web site supporting his possible Senate run; at another point, while answering a question from a friendly lawmaker fantasized about what he'd do if he were in the "upper chamber."
