Biden Won the Debate—but the American People Lost
BloombergTuesday's "debate" was a trainwreck. A national embarrassment. A disgrace.

If Joe Biden were looking for a pretext to skip the next two debates, he found it. It would be hard to blame him for concluding this is simply a waste of everyone's time. We'll see.

From the start of this debate, Donald Trump interrupted Biden. Repeatedly. For a while there, it looked like Biden was going to get destroyed—that Trump would simply run over him and Biden would be left sitting there, with that far away look in his eyes. But Biden rallied. He embraced the shit-show format, grew stronger as the night went on and started throwing some of his own elbows.

Sean Hannity Calls Debate ‘Refreshing': Let Them Go at It Like ‘Gladiators'
Fox News/screengrabSean Hannity might be the only person in America who enjoyed Tuesday night's debate between Donald Trump and Joe Biden.

"I actually prefer a new style of debate," the Fox News host said when he took over coverage for the network. "Maybe we'll have it in the future someday, and that is let 'em go. We like to watch football and warriors and gladiators in the Octagon and boxers go. Let 'em go! Let them have at it and let the American people decide."

Hannity received some rare pushback from guest Ari Fleischer, who responded, "Sean, I've gotta say, we're not electing gladiators, and this shouldn't be a food fight." He added, "I think this was a train wreck tonight," blaming "both candidates" for interrupting each other too much despite even moderator Chris Wallace acknowledging at one point that Trump interrupting Biden far more than the other way around.

Trump Says He's ‘Counting' on Supreme Court to Decide Election
GettyPresident Donald Trump indicated on Tuesday that he expects the Supreme Court, which he hopes will include his newly nominated Justice, will be the one to decide the fate of the 2020 election.

"I'm counting on them to look at the ballots." Trump said during Tuesday evening's presidential debate. "I hope we don't need them," he added. But the large numbers of anticipated mail-in ballots, Trump said, will inevitably mean questionable election results. "This is going to be a fraud like you have never seen," he said.

Trump reiterated many of his prior, mostly dubious, condemnations of mail-in voting, casting the practice as susceptible to widespread fraud and declining to say that he'd abide by the certification of election results that determined he'd lost to former Vice President Joe Biden.

CNN Absolutely Shreds ‘Shit Show' Debate: ‘Hot Mess Inside a Dumpster Fire'
Photo Illustration by Kelly Caminero/The Daily Beast/GettyCNN anchor Jake Tapper said what we were all thinking on Tuesday night following the first 2020 presidential debate between President Donald Trump and Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden.

"That was a hot mess inside a dumpster fire inside a train wreck," the veteran newsman said minutes after the two men exited the stage in Cleveland. "That was the worst debate I have ever seen."

Tapper continued to go off on the night's spectacle—which featured, among other things, the president refusing to condemn white supremacy—saying it "wasn't even a debate" and instead was a "disgrace."

Trump Denies NYT Report With Claim He Paid Millions in Taxes
Scott Olson/GettyConfronted on the debate stage over an explosive report detailing his chronic avoidance of federal taxes, President Donald Trump denied the findings, repeatedly insisting that he paid "millions of dollars" in taxes to the federal government.

After denying the allegations in a lengthy New York Times story published on Sunday—which drew on two decades of unreported Trump tax records which the paper obtained—Trump sought to repurpose his intricate tax strategy as an indictment of Democratic nominee Joe Biden's long record on economic policy.

"Before I came here, I was a private developer, I was a private business people, like every other private person, unless they're stupid, they go through the laws and that's what it is," said Trump, echoing his past comments about how "smart" businessmen take advantage of the U.S. tax code.
