It's only affecting people on the Dev and Beta builds of the Windows 11 Insider Preview, apparently, and The Verge reports that Microsoft's Senior Program Manager for Insider Preview has acknowledged it as a known issue. Here's the Windows Vista startup sound, if you don't remember it or (perish the thought) you're too young to have experienced Vista.
Weirdly, this comes less than a week after Microsoft got a little nostalgic for Vista, an oft-maligned entry in the Windows catalog between XP and 8. After Apple showed off an update to its macOS and iOS visual themes that was more than a bit reminiscent of Vista's glassy translucent Aero look, Microsoft threw a little shade over on Instagram.

"Just gonna leave this here," says the caption on a video posted to the official Windows Instagram account. It follows with screenshots of Vista and some familiar boot-up sounds. "Y'all good??? #Windows #WindowsVista #WindowsAero" is all that's in the description. As of this writing, just one day after it was posted, the video has over 150,000 likes and 3,700 comments. The post was spotted by Windows Latest.
