 On its quarterly earnings calls, Apple provides informal financial guidance that helps set expectations for investors and Wall Street analysts. On its latest earnings call yesterday, however, Apple mentioned something that it had not before.

This is a complicated situation, so let me break it down. ChatGPT has a share feature that lets you easily send info to another user with a link. But apparently the info in these semi-personal discussions with the "AI" chatbot was posted somewhere that Google could crawl and index. And this allowed it to be easily searchable with the very basic Google instruction, "site:chatgpt.com/share." Even though the queries searchable this way were probably only a tiny fraction of the massive volume of what ChatGPT users actually generated, it still had some, ahem, interesting things to search through.
ChatGPT's owner OpenAI was, predictably, not thrilled that such a huge volume of searches were going through, potentially including lots of semi-personal information. To be fair, users had to manually make these posts shared in the first place, and the warning "Anyone with the URL will be able to view your shared chat" appeared each time the function was used, and then also had to opt-in to it being shared with search engines. Nonetheless, they shut it down double-quick.

 Apple held an earnings call for the third fiscal quarter (second calendar quarter) of 2025 today, beating expectations with revenue of $94 billion. During the call, Apple CEO Tim Cook and CFO Kevan Parekh shared insights into device sales, tariffs, and more.

 Apple customers afraid of massive price hikes because of tariffs helped Apple's device sales during the fiscal third quarter of 2025, Apple CEO Tim Cook said today.

 While Apple largely won the lawsuit that Epic Games levied against it back in 2020, Google hasn't been as lucky. Google today failed to win an appeal in the ongoing ?Epic Games? v. Google case, handing another victory to Epic.

The order will take effect on August 29 at midnight, on goods that enter the country or are withdrawn from a warehouse for consumption.
The de minimis exemption allows goods valued under $800 to be imported to the United States without being tariffed. Put another way, it's a way for consumers to buy an item or two from Amazon, Shein, or another site without having to pay a tariff on top of sales tax. With the revocation of the exemption, you'll pay tax and tariffs, both — which are largely the same thing, anyway.
Trump filed the order on Wednesday. In April, Trump "declared a national emergency with respect to underlying conditions indicated by the large and persistent annual U.S. goods trade deficits," but left the de minimis exception in place. Trump said at the time that the Department of Commerce could not adequately process the tariffs on small items.
Trump's order said that the Secretary of Commerce reports that those systems are now in place, and that tariffs will be applied.
Trump had levied tariffs on China and Hong Kong in response to what he had said was the unlawful import of opioids. In his order, Trump declared that there are still "unusual and extraordinary threats" that exist in whole or in part outside of the United States, and that those threats justified suspending the de minimis exemption.
